LCCMR seeks projects for funds through Environment and Natural Resources Trust

The Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR) has issued its 2027 Request for Proposals (RFP) for funding from Minnesota’s Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund (ENRTF).

DFL volunteers fill backpacks for local students

On Monday, March 2, members of the Rock County DFL volunteered to fill backpacks for Luverne school students at the Rock County Food Shelf.

February is ‘I Love to Read’ Month

As part of February’s I Love to Read Month, Luverne Elementary School students and staff had fun with special dress up days. Friday, Feb. 27, was “Space Jammies and Popcorn Day,” and Elementary Principal Stacy Gillette popped popcorn for students and staff to enjoy while reading.

Great game, sad ending

The Luverne boys’ hockey team ended their season earlier than they expected.

The Cardinals fell 2-1 to Mankato West Thursday, Feb. 26, in the Section 3A Championship game in St. Peter.

It took three overtime periods to decide who would move on to the 2026 state tournament.

Big South All-Conference girls’ hockey and gymnastics athletes announced

Seven Luverne athletes were recently named to the 2025-26 Big South All-Conference Team.

In gymnastics, senior Kianna Winter, freshman Emma Cowell and eighth-grader Marrs Thone were selected all-conference in the Gold Division for LHS.

Patriots beat RRC in boys basketball section quarters

The Hills-Beaver Creek boys’ basketball team beat Red Rock Central 68-29 in Section 3A sub section quarterfinal action Saturday, Feb. 28, in Worthington.

The Patriots built a 39-17 lead at the half and tacked on 29 points in the second half for the section win.

LHS falls 52-42 to Fairmont in girls' basketball sections

Luverne gave Fairmont a scare in the Section 3 South Sub-Section Quarterfinal game Tuesday, Feb. 24, in Jackson.

The No. 5 seed Luverne Cardinals matched the No. 1 seed Fairmont Cardinals to the last four minutes of the game before Fairmont went on a 14-point run to win a 52-42 game.

LHS tops St. James 79-67 in boys' basketball sections

The Luverne boys’ basketball team added two wins to their record when they beat Edgerton 75-68 Feb. 24 and won 79-67 against St. James in the Section 3 south sub-section quarterfinal game at home Feb. 27.
