Gobblers keep calling

For many hunters spring provides their greatest calling. Most hunting takes place in the fall when pheasants, grouse, rabbits, squirrels, deer and other game seasons are in full swing.  Spring has one stand out that happens in the opposite end of the calendar.

'Remember and Honor' those who served

The American Legion and VFW conducted annual Memorial Day services at Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne Monday morning with guest speaker Rick Tupper of Augustana University. Memorial Day weather was sunny and mild for holiday activities that also took place in Hills, Hardwick and Beaver Creek.

Dist. 21 Sen. Bill Weber (R-Luverne) bid farewell to his colleagues in St. Paul last week after the Senate adjourned Sunday, May 17.

High voltage transmission lines may affect county

A high voltage transmission line may pass through north-easter Rock County, potentially affecting residents east of Luverne and north of Interstate 90.

That's according to a proposed route recently announced for the 765-kilovolt transmission line known as "PowerOn Midwest."

Two file for county seats

Keith Elbers, Hills, and Rick Peterson, Luverne, have filed for seats on the Rock County Board of Commissioners.

Rural Water ineligible for $250,000 loan, needs municipal powers to apply

Last month Rock County Rural Water officials received approval from the county to apply fthey found out they’re ineligible.

The loan through the Minnwould have provided funding for a new storage shed. 

Hills Beaver Creek School Board to begin strategic planning this fall

Hills-Beaver Creek School Board members will conduct strategic planning this fall or early winter. At their May 11 meeting, they voted to bring in an expert from the Minnesota School Boards Association to guide the process.

Beaver Creek Township Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 8, in the township hall. 

Vienna Township will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, in the Kenneth Community Center.
