Geraldine Ilene Sandstede, age 81, of Luverne, died Sunday, June 28, 2026, at the Sanford Luverne Medical Center.
Gerry was born March 2, 1945, in Luverne, to Hyman and Mae (Ziegahn) Top. She graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1963.
Gerry was united in marriage to James Sandstede on May 20, 1967. They had four boys who always kept them on their toes, Chad, Wade, Donny and Danny.
The coupl e raised their family in Luverne where Gerry worked for the city as the customer service secretary for 31 years, before retiring in July of 2009.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne; and was very active in the Rock County Relay for Life.
She enjoyed playing bingo, puzzles and spending time with family and friends. If you knew Gerry you probably know of her love for QVC. Late night shopping brought the family many bizarre and fun Christmas gifts.
She also enjoyed spending time with her special friend Mary, which brought much joy and laughter to her life.
After retirement, she was able to share her love by caring for two special children in her life.
Jim and Gerry also enjoyed a few warm tropical vacations and several trips to the Black Hills and Alaska.
Gerry is survived by her three sons, Chad Sandstede, Wasilla, Ark.; Wade (Kathleen) Sandstede, Maple Grove, Minn.; and Donny (Erin) Sandstede, Luverne, Minn.; three granddaughters, Tabitha, Cynthia and Samantha; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Judy Top, Hills, Minn.; and Judy (Tim) Top Helmars, Ashton, Iowa; and special friend Mary Gehrke.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hyman and Mae; husband, Jim on June 23, 2021; son, Danny on Sept. 22, 1996; and two brothers, Alan and Bill Top.
A time of fellowship was from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 2, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne.
A prayer service was at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home officiated by Pastor Steve Voris.
A private family burial will take place at a later date.
