LHS takes down Adrian/Ellsworth 17-2 in 3 1/2 innings

The Luverne High School softball team opened its season against Adrian Thursday, April 4, beating the Dragons 17-2 at home.

The game ended after 3 1/2 innings of play on the 15-run rule.

The Cardinals and Patriots track and field teams participated in the Luverne Invite Friday, April 5, along with five other teams.

Adrian/Ellsworth, Southwest Minnesota Christian, Windom, Lakeview and Worthington were also present for the invite.

In the Big South Conference, LHS senior Gavin DeBeer and junior Carter Sehr were named to the all-conference team in boys’ basketball.

The Luverne Cardinals and Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots girls’ golf teams played in the Worthington Invite Saturday, April 6, for their first meet of the season.

The girls played 18 holes in wind gusts upward of 50 miles per hour at times.

Cards baseball team takes Fairmont 4-2 in opener

The Luverne baseball team traveled to Fairmont for their first game of the season, beating the Fairmont Cardinals 4-2 Monday, April, 8.

Cardinal grads Smedsrud and Sengvongxay excel to professional level hockey in their careers

With the announcement of Jaxon Nelson, a native of Magnolia and LHS hockey standout, signing a one-year entry-level hockey contract with the NHL Boston Bruins, Luverne has two more hockey players from the 2014 state hockey team who attained professional hockey status.
