Cardinal and Patriot athletes move on to state track and field competition

Luverne hosted the 2024 Minnesota State High School League Section 3A track and field championships Thursday, May 30.

The Cardinals boys’ team finished first in the team competition with 80.33 points, and the girls’ team took first with a team score of 108.5.

Sudenga qualifies for state golf tourney at section competition

LHS senior Owen Sudenga qualified for the 2024 MSHL boys’ individual state golf tournament Wednesday, May 29.

In the second round of sections Sudenga shot a 76, finishing in seventh place at the Oakdale Golf Club in Buffalo Lake.

Luverne softball ends season 18-7

The Luverne High School softball players ended their postseason run, falling twice in section play Tuesday, May 28, in Marshall.

The Cardinals fell to Dassel-Cokato 6-2 in the semifinals and lost 3-0 to Jackson in the elimination round later that night.

Postseason dreams slip from Cardinal grasp in Marshall

The Cardinals ended their postseason baseball run this week, falling to Montevideo 1-0 Saturday, June 1, and 4-3 to Fairmont Monday, June 3, in Marshall.

In the final game of the regular season, LHS beat Jackson 9-0 at home on Thursday, May 30.

More than sixty runners compete in Buffalo Days run

Saturday morning’s Buffalo Days Run for a Cause in Luverne City Park attracted more than 60 runners who enjoyed cool, calm weather conditions.

“We really were blessed in the weather category,” said Lori Sorenson, who organized the event as a fundraiser for Carson’s Cause.

Expectations were not met

I made my annual trip up to Upper Red Lake last week, and for the first time in a very long time we caught very few fish. The main reason for the dismal catch rates was the weather. We had high winds two of the three days that we tried to fish that kept us off the water.
