Elaine Marlys Muller was born on Jan. 17, 1941, to William and Esther (Busch) Bahn in Luverne, Minn. She was baptized and later confirmed, both in Trosky, Minn. Elaine lived her entire life in the rural Jasper, Minn., area.

LaVon Mohr, age 91, of Luverne, Minn., died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026, at the Good Samaritan Society – Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at Hartquist Funeral Home in Luverne. Visitation will be held one hour prior from 10 to 11 a.m.

Enore Joan Boelman was born on Sept. 23, 1930, to Fred and Jennie (Bergman) Wessels on the farm in Grand Prairie Township, Nobles County, Minn. 

Sondra Coulter, age 86 of Luverne, Minn., passed away Thursday, Aug. 21, 2026, at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Luverne. 

A memorial visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at the Hartquist Funeral Home in Luverne with a prayer service to start at 6 p.m. 

Bernard “Bernie” Gunnink, age 87, of Hardwick, Minn., passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026, at the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, Minn. 

James Dean Lanoue, age 57, of Hardwick, Minn., passed away Friday, Aug. 21, 2026, at the Sanford Medical Center, in Sioux Falls, S.D. 

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. 

With summer settling down, school will be back in session here shortly for Luverne and surrounding communities. 

For the kids, this means butterflies in anticipation of a new school year, or maybe fear of the unknown that a new season brings.
