Lois A. Meyer Ahrendt, 95, beloved mother, wife and grandmother, passed peacefully with her children at her side in The Villages, Florida, Aug. 23, 2025.
A Celebration of Life will be at the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne, Minnesota, on Oct. 11, 2025, at 1 p.m. A light lunch will follow the service with a private graveside service later.
Lois was born to Fred J. and Minnie (Boelman) Huisman on Dec. 30, 1929, and lived most of her life in Rock County. She attended country school and graduated from Luverne High School in 1947.
Lois was married to Robert K. Meyer on Oct. 11, 1947, until his death on April 27, 1984. When not farming, Lois and Bob enjoyed bowling, softball games, and spending time with friends and family.
In addition to raising seven children, she worked at the Magnolia Steakhouse, the VFW, and the Magnolia Public School as a teacher’s aide for 18 years. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
On Feb. 14, 1992, Lois married Orland Ahrendt, and they enjoyed 15 years together traveling, fishing, and dining out until his death on April 10, 2007.
Lois was an active and faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne. She was a long-standing member of the Esther Circle and served as an Elder, Deacon, Vacation Bible School and Sunday School teacher throughout her many years at the church. She additionally served on the church historical committee and maintained their scrapbooks.
In Lois’ retirement years, she joined the Red Hat Society and volunteered weekly at the History Center in Luverne.
Lois’ greatest pride and joy were her seven children, whom she taught persistence by example through life’s many journeys. Even though she spent her life living in Rock County, she loved to travel and was able to visit her children scattered across the United States and even managed to squeeze in a cruise to Mexico with her daughters and sister. When she couldn’t travel, Lois lived vicariously through her children’s travels around the world.
Crafting in her retirement years brought her so much joy. Her paintings, whether on china, rocks, wood, or canvas, along with stamped greeting cards and scrapbooking have traveled the world.
Lois is survived by her children Nancy Cooper of Golden, Colorado, William (Fiona) Meyer of The Villages, Florida, Kathy (Alan) McArthur of Anchorage, Alaska, Sandi (John) Hagen of Sanford, Florida, LeAnn Beaty of Hayden, Idaho, and Robert (Kim Mason) Meyer of Orcas Island, Washington.
Lois was blessed with 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Lois is also survived by her sister, Marge Bjornson, and five stepchildren, Ruth Ann, Loretta Teune, Ken, Walter, and David, along with their families.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Robert and Orland; son Steven Meyer; sons-in-law Marc Cooper and Roger Beaty; granddaughter Nancy Hagen; sister Charlotte Meester; and brother K. James Huisman.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tribals Reaching Tribals, a ministry in the Philippines that her grandson, Steve Hagen, oversees and which has been supported by First Presbyterian Church of Luverne.
