James “Jim” McClure passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 2, 2024, in Fridley, Minnesota.

He was born to Agnes E. Hansen and Leslie A. McClure Sept. 30, 1937, in Luverne, Minnesota. Jim graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Business and was employed by Honeywell Aerospace & Defense Systems for 33 years. He managed contracts that supported military surveillance and aerospace avionics systems, including electronic engine controls for the Space Shuttle.  

Jim gave back to his community in many ways: Civil Defense Captain for eight years, Brooklyn Center Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years, (Chief Training Off.), District Chief and Minnesota Technical college instructor of fire ground management/department administration, scoutmaster for six years, brought high adventure to Troop 403 featuring mountain backpacking, and produced several  Eagle Scouts, including his sons.

In retirement he was elected president of Inlet Village, Hutchinson Island Florida, enjoyed golf, ocean fishing and fun van trips with the grandkids from Canada to Florida.

Jim is preceded in death by infant brother, his mother, Agnes, and his father, Leslie McClure.

Married 67 years, he is survived by his wife, Barbara; children Mark (Ann), Steve, (Tara),  David, Carolyn (Brendan) Smith, and Michael; grandchildren Mike (Angela), Matt (Robyn), Caitlin, Scott, and Ryder and Charlie (mother Jenifer McClure); great-grandchildren Jackson, Riley, Avery, Connor, Scarlett and Addison.

Jim was a devoted husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. His love and wisdom will forever resonate in the hearts of his family and friends.

Memorials to Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne. A post-burial gathering will follow at Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne.
