Sixteen Patriot athletes advance to Section meet

Patriot athletes traveled to Luverne Thursday afternoon for the Section 3A Sub-section Southwest track meet that included Adrian/Ellsworth, Hills-Beaver Creek, Luverne, Murray County Central, Pipestone, Russell-Tyler-Ruthton, Southwest Christian, and Tracy-Milroy-Balaton.
The Lady Pates finished in fifth place with 64.5 points while the boys finished in fourth place with 73 points.
Pipestone will host the meet Thursday with field events starting at 2 p.m.
The girls’ first-place 4-by-100-meter relay was the highlight of the meet for the Lady Pates, who set a new school record with a time of 51.24.
Winning relay runners were Abbie Harris, Brynn Rauk, Layla Deelstra and Brynn Bakken.
Bakken also placed first in the 100-meter dash (12.99) and 200-meter dash (26.74).
Senior Kenadie Fick had a first-place finish for the Patriots in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:48.58, and she also qualified in the 800-meter run (2:35.72) with a fifth-place finish.
Layla Deelstra qualified for the section meet in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.35.
Abbie Harris will move on in the 400-meter dash after running a 1:05.75.
The 4-by-200-meter relay team  of Harris, O. Deelstra, Rauk and Deelstra was fifth with a time of 1:52.67
The 4-by-400-meter relay team of Bailey Spykerboer, Fick, Olivia Deelstra and Taylor Durst was the final qualifier for the Lady Pates with a fifth-place finish in 4:33.78. 
For the boys, Ty Bundesen (11.71) and Cooper Gehrke (11.80) finished second and third in the 100-meter dash to qualify.
The boys’ 4-by-200-meter relay team of Ty Bundesen, Liam Raymon, Eli Taubert and Cooper Gehrke finished second with a time of 1;36.70.
The 4-by-400-meter relay team that placed third (3:48.20) was made up of Raymon, Eli Taubert, Micah Bush and Beau Bakken.
The Patriots’ 4-by-100-meter relay team of  Bundesen, Fuerstenberg, Bakken and Gehrke came away with a fifth-place finish at 46.70.
Raymon was second in the triple jump with 40-8.75 and fourth in the 400-meter run (54.63). 
Junior Brock Harnack took fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (18.46) and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (46.85). He also qualified in triple jump (37-5) with a sixth-place finish.
 Luke Fuerstenberg finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.65.
Bundesen was the final qualifier for the Patriot boys in the shot put with a throw of 43-1.5.
