Patriots' track teams open season at Luverne Invitational

Hills-Beaver Creek track and field teams enjoyed some season opening successes at their first meet Monday night in Luverne.
The girls placed fifth and boys sixth as teams, and coach Rex Metzger said he was pleased by the Patriots’ performances.
“It was great to see our kids compete, and I thought overall we were very competitive,” he said. “I look forward to the rest of the season.”
H-BC track teams will travel to Slayton Thursday for the Murray County Central Relays.
 
Girls’ results
Seventh-grader Brynn Bakken turned in H-BC’s lone first-place finishes with her 15’ 2” long jump and 13.56 time in the 100-meter run.
Placing second were the relay teams in the 4-by-100-meter (55.05) and 4-by-200-meter (1:54.88). Runners on both those teams were Layla Deelstra, Brynn Rauk, Bakken and Abbie Harris.
Senior Kenadie Fick placed second in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:07.66.
In fourth place were Layla Deelstra (13.74) in the 100 meter and the 4-by-800-meter relay team of Fick, Taylor Durst, Emma Deelstra and Bailey Spykerboer (11:47.99).
Ally Birger threw 27-4 in the shot put for sixth place.
Boys’ results
Liam Raymon, Luke Fuerstenberg, Cooper Gehrke and Brock Harnack teamed up for second-place finishes in the 4-by-100 (48.39) and 4-by-200 (1:40.00).
Gehrke was third in the 100-meter with a tie of 11.93.Harnack was third in the 300-meter hurdles in 49.42
Placing fourth were Elijah Taubert (25.24) in the 200-meter run and Raymon 40-6 in the triple jump.
James Vanden Bosch was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (53.40).
In sixth place were Raymon (12.33) in the 100 meters and Harnack in the triple jump (38-0).
