Patriots boys' and girls' track teams compete in Slayton

The Patriot track teams traveled to Slayton Thursday afternoon, May 8, to compete in the Dick Davidson Invite.
With the weekend’s Howard Wood Relays scheduled, the coach held some athletes back and let the younger athletes fill some events for the Slayton meet.
Senior Kenadie Fick led the way for the H-BC girls with a second-place finish in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:56.
Fick also led the 4-by-800-meter relay team of Taylor Durst, Emma Deelstra, and Bailey Spykerboer to a third-place finish with a time of 11:24.12.
The girls’ 4-by-100-meter relay team was made up of Aspen Shimp, Hailey Moser, Olivia Deelstra and Larissa Steinhoff. They placed fourth with a time of 57.10.
The 4-by-200-meter team of O. Deelstra, Bailey Spykerboer, Moser and Steinhoff finished in sixth place with a time of 2:05.09.
Eighth-grader Ally Birger threw the shot put 29-5 1/4, which was good enough for fourth place.
Freshman Bailey Spykerboer turned in a sixth-place finish in the triple jump with a jump of 26-8 3/4.
On the boys’ side, the 4-by-100-meter relay team was the top finisher. The team of Bode Kruger, Mason Schaeffner, Sawyer Bosch and Beau Bakken came in second with a time of 49.44.
 Max Scholten was second in the shot put with a throw of 40-1 1/2 and sixth in discus with a throw of 111-5.
Junior Brock Harnack had a successful day with three fourth-place finishes and one sixth-place finish. His fourth-place finishes were in the 100-meter dash (12.50), 300-meter hurdles (45.62), and triple jump (35-5 1/2). His sixth-place finish was in the long jump at 17-2.
Eighth-grader Micah Bush was able to place in two different events. He was fifth in the 400-meter (59.96) and sixth in the 800-meter (2:26)
Freshman Sawyer Bosch placed sixth in the triple jump with a jump of 34-2.
