Junior Legion baseball team goes 1-3 in first week of play

The Luverne Junior Legion baseball team opened its summer season with three losses during their home Buffalo Days tournament before earning a victory over Adrian Monday night.
Luverne is scheduled to play in Minneota tonight (Thursday) and in Worthington on Monday.
 
Marshall 5, Luverne 1
Luverne suffered a 5-1 loss to Marshall Orange in their season opener Friday at Redbird Field.
Patrick Kroski pitched five innings for Luverne, giving up two runs.
Landon Ahrendt replaced Kroski on the mound for the final two innings and gave up three runs.
Layke Miller had Luverne’s only hit in the game and Marcus Vortherms scored the team’s only run.

Dell Rapids 5, Luverne 4
In the second game of the Buffalo Days tournament, Luverne fell 5-4 in a close contest to Dell Rapids, South Dakota, Friday night.
The game was tied 2-2 after four innings, before Dell Rapids scored two runs in the top of the fifth and one more in the top of the sixth to take a 5-2 lead.
Although Luverne plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth and one more in the bottom of the seventh, it was not enough to earn their first victory of the summer.
At the plate, Elliot Domagala led the Luverne offense with one hit and scored two runs.
Jacob Stroh and Vortherms also had hits in the game, while Trevor DeBates and Stroh scored the other Luverne runs.
Stroh pitched four innings and gave up two runs.
Domagala was on the mound for the final three innings and gave up three runs.

New Ulm 2, Luverne 0
Luverne lost to New Ulm Gold in their final game of the Buffalo Days tournament at Redbird Field Saturday.
Miller recorded the host team’s only hit in the 2-0 loss to New Ulm.
Vortherms threw the first four innings for Luverne. He gave up two runs off three hits.
DeBates pitched the final three innings and gave up no hits and no runs.

Luverne 9, Adrian 0
Luverne won its first game of the season when Adrian came to Redbird Field Monday night.
The hosts defeated Adrian 9-0 in five innings.
Carter Sehr led the Luverne offense, going two for three at the plate and scoring a run.
Domagala also scored two runs in the game.
Alex Schlosser, Sehr, Vortherms and Kai Buss scored the other Luverne runs.
Sehr pitched three innings for Luverne and gave up only one hit. Domagala pitched in relief for the final two innings and also gave up one hit.
