Cardinals open track and field season at indoor meet

The Cardinal track and field teams opened their season indoors March 28 at the Ruth Marske High School Invite at South Dakota State University. 
They were competing against several big schools from South Dakota and Iowa which provided for some tough competition. 
The Luverne Cardinals competed with over 1,000 high school athletes with the LHS boys finishing in seventh place in team scoring and the girls finishing 13th. 
Tenley Nelson finished first in the 800 meters (2:21.88) and teamed up with Tiana Lais, Jenna DeBates and Elizabeth Wagner in the 4-by-400-meter relay to finish fourth (4:21.72).
Cardinal sprinter Ashton Sandbulte turned in a sizzling 11.09 time in the 100-meter dash, which was good for second place, and he placed seventh in the 200 meters (23.48). 
Eli Radtke had a personal best pole vault of 13’ 6” which was good for second place.
Camden Janiszeski finished seventh in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10.33.89. 
Several other Luverne athletes placed in the Top 10 at the Brookings meet.
Jaydn Hart placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 10.61 meters.
The 4-by-800-meter relay team placed seventh with a time of 9:14.07. Runners were Camden Janiszeski, Owen Janiszeski, Ryan Fick and Sage Viessman.
Jenna DeBates placed ninth in the 1600 with a time of 5:40.53.
The 4-by-800-meter relay team of Tiana Lais, Ella Schmuck, Cassi Chesley, and Kayla Bloemendaal placed 10th with a time of 10:57.69.
