Burdella Gertrude De Jager, 95, Hull, Iowa, formerly of Luverne, died Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Sioux Center Health in Sioux Center, Iowa.
A funeral service was Wednesday, May 4, at the Christian Reformed Church in Luverne. Burial was at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Luverne.
Burdella Ver Steeg was born July 6, 1920, to Lambertus and Gertrude (De Young) Ver Steeg on the family farm southeast of Hull, Iowa. On Feb. 8, 1935, she made her public profession of faith.
Burdella married Harry De Jager on June 27, 1941, in Hull. After their marriage the couple lived in California for a brief time before moving to a farm east of Doon, Iowa. In 1955 they moved to a farm west of Luverne. After Harry’s death in 1984, Burdella moved into Luverne. She moved to Hull in September of 2015.
She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Luverne, where she was involved in the Ladies Aid and the Christian School Circle. She volunteered at the Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne and the Luverne Senior Dining. Burdella was Rock County’s Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year in 2004. She especially loved socializing with neighbors and friends and spending time with her grandchildren.
Burdella is survived  by three daughters, Glenda Van Hill, Leota, Alvina (Alvin) Kooiman, Worthington, and Marcia (Larry) Hoekstra, Hull; 14 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Anna Mae Ver Steeg, Luverne, and Sophie Koolhaas, Ontario, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry; four brothers, Ronald, Vernon, Norman and Evan Earl Ver Steeg; and three sisters, Viola De Groot, Margaret Van Veldhuizen and Elnora De Wild.
Arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Home of Luverne, dingmannandsons.com.
