'Street of Treats' volunteers pack candy bags

Lead Summary

A dedicated group of volunteers gathered in the lower level of the Luverne Chamber Office Monday morning to fill individual bags with donated candy for families who will participate in Friday’s Halloween “Street of Treats.”

The event involves costumed participants lining the one-way street at the high school where families will drive through and collect bags of candy from fire department members on the south end of the route. The socially distanced event replaces the usual Trunk ’N’ Treat Halloween format that gathers crowds of trick-or-treaters and Halloween displays downtown. Candy volunteers are (front, from left) Lois Young, Mary Sites, Sheryl Heronimus, Elena Heronimus, (back) Roger Henderson, Kris Waknitz, Jody VonHoltum, Cheryl Roos, Linda Beyenhof, Gert Wessels and Linda Wenzel.
