Halloween 'Street of Treats' a big hit

The coronavirus pandemic shut down Luverne’s popular Trunk ’N Treat Halloween event downtown, but the Luverne Chamber staff and volunteers created a “Street of Treats” that offered similar thrills and candy for local families. On Friday the one-way street along the east side of the high school was lined with costumed businesses and organizations who showed their Halloween spirit and waved to passing vehicles. At the end of the “Street of Treats,” the Luverne Fire Department handed out pre-packaged bags of candy donated by and assembled by community businesses and volunteers. When it was over, more than 1,100 bags of candy were handed out Friday afternoon. According to Chamber Director Jane Lanphere, 200 leftover bags were shared with the Luverne Elementary School and Southwestern Youth Services. “Thanks to the generous donors and sponsors for filling the bags, and thanks to all who came out to celebrate with the children and their families,” Lanphere said.
