The prep athletes that had been training on local ponds, lakes and homemade ice rinks took to the ice for the first day of practice.     The Luverne boys’ hockey team finished the 2019-2020 campaign with a 15-10 overall record. They defeated Marshall 4-3 in the opening round of the section tournament before losing to Hutchison, the eventual section champions, 6-1.     Hills-Beaver Creek’s football coach, Rex Metzger was named District Coach of the Year for the 2020 season. Metzger coached the Patriots to a perfect 7-0 season. The Patriots ended the 2020 season with a section championship victory over Mountain Lake Area. The Patriots were recently awarded the Associated Press nine-man state champions.

In total the Cardinals had five players receive all-district honors.
