H-BC golf competes in Slayton, Sanborn

The Hills-Beaver Creek boys’ and girls’ golf teams competed in their third Red Rock Conference meet of the season on Tuesday, May 11.
The boys’ team competed in Sanborn, while the girls played in Slayton.
The H-BC girls finished fourth overall with a total score of 433.
The Adrian/Ellsworth golf team took home first place with a final score of 395.
Adrian/Ellsworth’s Gracia Elias and Murray County Central’s Cierra Tutt tied for first place with a score of 91.
H-BC’s Tess Van Maanen finished one stroke off the lead with a score of 92.
Hannah Fick shot a 101. Tara Paulssen shot a 112. Mackenzie Vos shot a 128 and Danette Leenders shot a 158.
At the beginning of the season Van Maanen and Fick were the only two that had varsity experience. H-BC coach Dan Ellingson said the rest of the team has shown marked improvements since the first meet of the season.
“The girls have been improving all season long,” Ellingson said. “The girls’ team has more wins than losses and that is very encouraging.”
The H-BC boys finished third overall with a score of 405.
Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda took home first with a round of 375.
HLOF’s Sawyer Dent was the top individual performer with a score of 83.
H-BC’s Thomas Dysthe finished third overall with a score of 89.
Austin Allen and Damien Meinerts both shot a 105 for H-BC.
Jacob Axness shot a 106. Dallas Page shot a 112 and Ethan Kruger shot a 117.
“The boys have gained in the conference,” Ellingson said. “They are currently in third place overall. Our goal was to be in the top two, so we are close.”
The H-BC golf teams will be back on the course Tuesday, May 18, in Worthington for another Red Rock Conference meet.
