Ron Boyenga, County Commissioner District 3

Lead Summary

The Star Herald asked candidates facing a primary election on Aug. 9 five questions to inform readers about themselves.
The five questions are:
1.) Community involvement
2.) Employment, education and family
3.) What made you decide to seek election/reelection to the County Board of Commissioners?
4.) How do you view the role of a commissioner in your community?
5.) What makes you the best candidate for the job?

Ron Boyenga is the incumbent District 4 County Commissioner. He lives in Kanaranzi Township.
1.) I was born on Nov. 11, 1940, in the Luverne hospital during the Armistice Day blizzard. I have lived in Kanaranzi Township all of my life. I am married with five children and 13 grandchildren. I help with harvest, hauling beans and running the combine for corn.
2.) I have served on many boards and committees: school, bank, church, elevator and various county committees.
3.) As long as I have been on the county board I have never voted to increase the levy and, if elected, I plan to do the same, as people are leaving Rock County for South Dakota due to high taxes. At the same time we (the county board) remodeled the courthouse, built a new law enforcement center, new mental health center in Luverne, moved the library, kept the railroad going, and expanded the rural water system plus various other projects.
4.) One or more county commissioners serve on 59 various committees including budget, family service, rural water, planning and zoning, railroad, economic development, historical, and library to name a few. Some meetings are monthly and some as needed. Some are in various towns in Minnesota.
5.) Many people in Rock County would probably be a better commissioner than I, but don’t have the time or interest. So I offer my experience and my time and let the voters decide.
