Three local American Legion representatives were selected to state offices at the recently completed 68th annual Minnesota Legion Boys State.
The Arthur Moeller American Legion Post #478 in Hardwick sponsored Knute Oldre of Luverne. He was elected attorney general during the June 12-18 event at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.
For his election to state office, Oldre was awarded a Boys State scholarship.
Oldre was also elected as an alternate to the Boys Nation conducted in Washington, D.C., later this month.
Oldre is the son of Kyle and Sara Oldre of Luverne.
The Hardwick legion also sponsored Griffin Ahrendt of Luverne.
Ahrendt, the son of Brad and Angela Ahrendt, Luverne, was elected the minority leader of the House of Representatives.
The American Legion Post #123 in Luverne sponsored Dylan Thorson of Luverne.
Thorson was elected senate majority leader. He is the son of Curt and Caroline Thorson, Luverne.
Almost 330 high school juniors from across the state attended Boys State this year. The weeklong experience of learning about Minnesota government and leadership focused on local, county and state levels through hands-on activities.
Highlight of the week’s event included the election and announcement of the Boys State governor and seven state constitutional offices.
