Minnesota state parks will host candlelight events across the state this winter, including one at Blue Mounds State Park on Saturday, Jan. 27.
Drop by any time between 5:30 and 8 p.m. for hiking among candles in the snow as stars twinkle overhead.
“Candlelight events are a magical way to experience parks and trails,” said Ann Pierce, director of Minnesota state parks and trails.
“On a cold winter’s night, there’s something beautiful about the flicker of candles. Plus, being active outside in winter is a great way to beat cabin fever. Bundle up and come join us on a candlelit trail.”
The self-guided 1.75-mile trail starts at the Picnic Area and is suitable for beginner-level hikers of all ages.
Stop by the Picnic Shelter to wrap up the evening with a cup of hot cocoa and a cookie near a crackling bonfire.

Blue Mounds Park staff would like to encourage carpooling to the event.
Get vehicle permits online ahead of time
A vehicle permit is required to enter Minnesota state parks and recreation areas. The DNR recommends buying permits in advance at mndnr.gov/permit or on the Yodel app.
The cost is $7 per day, or $35 for a year-round permit.
