Joan Boeve

Joan Adrianna Boeve was born August 4, 1929, in Hull, Iowa, to John and Kate (Korthals) Vanden Oever. She was raised in Hull and attended country school.

She married Donald Boeve in her parents’ home on January 18, 1950. Following their marriage, the couple made their home on a farm near Hills, Minnesota, where they farmed for the next 61 years.

Joan and Don made farming a team effort; side by side they worked the land. Joan drove the tractor pulling bales, milking the cows by hand, and working with the chickens, hogs and cattle.

The couple was also blessed with two children, Dennis and Sharon. On June 9, 2011, Don passed and Joan continued to live on the farm.

Joan was a faithful member of the Steen Reformed Church in Steen, Minnesota. She enjoyed walking for exercise and spending time working in her gardens, especially her flowers. She cherished the time spent with family and was famous for baking her angel food cakes and cream puffs and sharing them with family and friends.

Joan passed away on March 22, 2024, at the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills, Minnesota, at the age of 94 years, 7 months, and 18 days.

Joan will be lovingly remembered by her son, Dennis and his wife, Darice Boeve, of Hills, and a daughter, Sharon, and her husband, Stan Hup, of Nisswa, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Kristine (Jason) Kottke, Chelsea (Ryan) Klingelhoets, Derek Boeve, and Destiny Boeve; two step-grandchildren, Christopher (Emily) Zeig and Nicholas Zeig; four great-grandchildren, William and Weston Kottke, Aaliyah Boeve and Chloe Zeig; and her sister, Evelyn of Hills, Minnesota.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Donald; a brother, John Mulder; seven sisters, Gertrude Vander Vliet, Jeanette Vander Zwaag, Cynthia Oostra, Wilmina Smit, Henrietta Wassenaar, Catherine DeWit and LaVonne Kroese; sister-in-law Claretta Mulder; brothers-in-law George Wassenaar, John Elmer DeWit, Marvin Rens, Ralph Oostra, Hilmore Kroese, Herman Vander Vliet, JR (Russ) Vander Zwaag and Anthony Smit; and one granddaughter, Michelle Hup.
