May 12, 2014

The Hills-Beaver Creek School Board met for its semimonthly meeting at 7:14 pm in the High School Conference Room.

Board members present were Baker, Fick, Fransman, Gehrke, Kueter, Leuthold and Moser. Superintendent Holthaus was also in attendance. Business Manager Kuehl was absent.

Chairman Fransman called the meeting to order.

Visitors to the meeting were Erica Van Wyhe, Hills Crescent; Betsy Knoche, Ehlers; Lexi Moore, Kari Kueter, Steve Wiertzema and Jason Phelps.

Motion by Gehrke, second by Fick, and carried to approve the agenda.

Motion by Baker, second by Moser and carried to approve the Resolution awarding the sale, determine the form and details, authorizing the execution, delivery and registration, and providing for the payment of general obligation school building refunding Bonds, series 2014A (Betsy Knoche, Ehlers Inc.)

The minutes of the last meeting were approved as sent out.

Motion by Kueter, second by Leuthold, and carried to approve the bills.

Motion by Leuthold, second by Baker, and carried to approve the following donations: $1,500 anonymous donation for H-BC Weight Room, $100 for H-BC Weight Room from Tim and Brenda Plimpton, $50 anonymous donation for H-BC Weight Room, $300 from Ray VanderWolde for H-BC Foundation, $1,500 from Alliant Energy for iPads and wireless equipment at Secondary School, $45 from Wade Jellema for Community Education.

Motion by Gehrke, second by Moser, and carried to approve the recommendation to approve the First Reading of Post-Issuance Debt Compliance Policy and Post-Issuance Debt Compliance Procedures.

Motion by Fick, second by Gehrke, and carried to approve the recommendation to add $500 yearly pay for Teachers serving as Mentors. Item to be added to the District’s Miscellaneous Pay Schedule for the 2013-14 school year.

Motion by Baker, second by Moser, and carried to approve recommendation to approve Fall 2014 Southwest MN State University Student Teaching Placements in First Grade and Secondary Mathematics.

Motion by Kueter, second by Fick, and carried to approve the recommendation to approve Second Reading of Policies:

      707 Р Transportation of Public School Students

      708 Р Transportation of NON-Public School Students

      710 Р Extracurricular Transportation

713 Р Student Activity Accounting

Motion by Leuthold, second by Fick, and carried to accept resignation of Secondary Special Education Teacher Thomas Gluf.

Motion by Leuthold, second by Moser, and carried to approve to hire Jason Phelps as Elementary Principal for the 2014-2015 school year.

Motion by Kueter, second by Gehrke, and carried to approve the recommendation to add 30 percent FTE to Preschool teacher’s time for the 2014-2015 school year making the position 80 percent FTE.

Motion by Moser, second by Fick, and carried to approve recommendation to add 11.25 hours per week to Prechool Paraprofessional position time for the 2014-2015 school year.

Motion by Gehrke, second by Baker, and carried to approve recommendation to post 1 FTE Elementary Teacher, 0.5 FTE Elementary classroom teacher, contingent on agenda item 5.3s approval and 0.5 FTE Title I lead teacher position for the 2014-2015 school year.

Motion by Kueter, second by Fick, and carried to approve recommendation to post .5 FTE Physical Education Teaching Position with preferential consideration to licensed candidates with Developmentally Appropriate Physical Education endorsement for the 2014-2015 school year.

Motion by Moser, second by Leuthold, and carried to approve recommendation to approve overload for secondary science teacher.

Mr. Holthaus presented the K-12 Principal report.

Staff Development Report was given by Leuthold.

Teacher Administration Board (TAB) update was given by Fransman and Leuthold.

Legislative Update was given by Fransman.

                May 23                                   Senior Graduation at 7:00 P.M.

                May 27 (Tuesday) Regular Board Meeting
