AHS wrestlers maul T-M-B-W-WG
The Adrian wrestling team dominated its home mat when the Dragons strolled to a 69-12 victory over Tracy-Milroy-Balaton-Westbrook-Walnut Grove.
Adrian won 10 of the 12 matches and received forfeit points from Carter Van Dyke and Jesse Slater during a 57-point win.
Alex Fuertstenberg, Skylar Heronimus, Greg Kern, Marshall Taylor, Logan Rogers, Andy McCann and Gavin Engelkes recorded pins for AHS, which also received a decision win from Ryan Elias.
Dragons post first win of new year
The Adrian boys’ basketball team picked up its first win of 2014 when it downed Edgerton 67-55 in Adrian.
The Dragons opened a 13-point halftime lead (40-27) and went on to win the game by 12 points after EHS sported a 28-27 scoring edge in the second half.
Taylor Recker (25 points), Brady Lonneman (13 points, four blocked shots, three assists and three steals) and Nick Reyne (12 points) played key roles in the win.
Panthers remain unbeaten in 2014
The Ellsworth boys’ basketball team won its third-straight game in January when it secured a 61-49 home triumph over Westbrook-Walnut Grove.
The Panthers opened an 11-point halftime advantage (33-22) and used a 28-27 scoring edge in the second half to prevail by 12 points.
Justin Kruse (13 points and seven rebounds), Drew Cheskie (12 points, seven rebounds and three steals), Jon Kramer (11 points, 10 assists and three steals), Mitch Leuthold (11 points) and Tim Nolte (10 points) turned in solid efforts for Ellsworth.
Eagles rally past Patriot boys.
A second-half rally by Southwest Christian lifted the Eagles to a 74-44 win over the Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots Tuesday in Edgerton.
H-BC stunned the defending state champions by taking a 33-30 edge into the intermission, but the Eagles outscored H-BC 44-11 in the second half to win by 30 points.
Dylan Gehrke (28 points and seven rebounds), Carey Taubert (10 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots) and Noah Holthaus (six rebounds) led H-BC statistically.
