Panthers upend Patriot girls
The Ellsworth girls’ basketball team recorded consecutive wins for the first time this season when the Panthers posted a 52-34 win over Hills-Beaver Creek in Hills.
Converting 53 percent of their field goals to lead the way, EHS opened a 29-18 lead in the first half before outscoring the Patriots 23-16 in the second half to complete an 18-point victory.
Alexa Huisman (17 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals), Alissa Walters (13 points and three assists), Heidi Nolte (11 points and six rebounds) and Hannah Mulder (six rebounds) paced the Panthers statistically.
Avery Van Roekel (nine points and six rebounds) and Kelli Esselink (eight rebounds) turned in positive performances for the Patriots.
Dragons sweep field in Marshall
The Adrian Dragons ruled the wrestling roost at the Marshall Triangular.
Adrian posted a 53-17 win over the host school and coasted to a 58-3 victory over Fulda-Murray County Central leave event with a perfect 2-0 record.
Ryan Elias, Michael Preuss, Carter Van Dyke, Matthew Slater, Andy McCann, Dylan Gyberg and Tony Sieve all went 2-0 at the triangular.
Adrian girls make bid to upset SWC
The Adrian girls’ basketball team nearly knocked off Southwest Christian when the teams squared off in Adrian.
The score was tied at 25 after 18 minutes of play, but the E-Gals used a 29-26 scoring edge in the second half to pull out a 54-51 victory.
Elizabeth Thier (16 points, 10 rebounds and five assists) and Bailey Grussing (10 points and 10 rebounds) turned in double-doubles for Adrian.
