The Luverne girls earned a berth in state competition during the Section 3A Cross Country Championships in Adrian Thursday.
In what was a tight battle against Lac qui Parle Valley, the Cardinals placed second in the team standings by a 66-70 margin.
Luverne advances to the state meet in Northfield Nov. 2 as the Section 3A runner up.
Along with the LHS girls, two other runners from the Star Herald coverage area qualified for state individually during Thursday’s section event.
Luverne senior Cody Hess placed third individual in the boys’ field.
Adrian senior Nicole Slater won the girls’ individual championship.
