Friends of the Library collects books for sale
Friends of the Library will collect books for their upcoming book sale until Monday, Sept. 16, at the Rock County Community Library. Donations will be accepted during normal business hours. GEP audition dates set
The Green Earth Players announce auditions for the play, “Leaving Iowa.” Auditions are in the GEP building located at 401 W. Edgehill St., Luverne, from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, and from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26.
Performance dates are Nov. 15-17 and Nov. 22-24.
Sign up now for senior bus trip to state fair
Local senior citizens can join Luverne Community Ed. for a trip to the Minnesota State Fair on Senior Day Monday, Aug. 26. The trip is specifically for age 65 and over. All meals are at your own expense or bring sack lunches. The bus leaves at 6 a.m. from the Luverne Community Ed. parking lot and arrives back at 10:30 p.m. Fee is $35/bus ride and fair ticket. Bus pick up may be requested at Worthington Shopko.

Blood drive set for Aug. 27
Community Blood Bank and Minnesota West Luverne will host a blood drive from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, at the Minnesota West campus in Luverne.
The blood drive will benefit area patients in need of blood at Sanford Luverne.

The 11th annual Remember Rally motorcycle event to honor military and 9/11 will begin with an 11 a.m. registration Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Howling Dog Saloon in Luverne. Proceeds will be raised for three veterans organizations: Project Sanctuary, BurnPits360 and Troops Direct.
The motorcycle run leaves at 12:30 p.m. with Fire Department escort.
A come and go celebration will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Howling Dog with barbecues, chips, beans, fresh fruit and bars available throughout the day for $5. Games and door prizes will be available at the Dog during the day.

I-90 road construction begins Sept. 3
Lane restrictions and possible delays will begin Tuesday, Sept. 3 on Interstate 90 on the eastbound lanes between Luverne and Magnolia.
Traffic will be managed with one lane in each direction in westbound lanes.
The project is expected to be complete in early November.
School Readiness registration
Registrations for Luverne Community Education’s School Readiness Preschool class are now being accepted for the 2013-14 school year. Classes begin with a parent-child day Tuesday, Sept. 10. Children must be at least 3 years old by Sept. 1 and not yet in kindergarten. Free and reduced fees are available, and priority is given to families with greater needs. Parent workshops and field trips are also available.

CAHRC announces photo contest
The Council for Arts and Humanities in Rock County announces the Carnegie Cultural Center’s photo contest, which will be shown during October.
Photo categories are line, texture and repetition. Entry deadline is Sept. 26, 2013, with original photos being accepted in the adult, young adult (13-18) and youth (12 and under) divisions. All entries must be mounted and ready to hang. Entry fee is only $5 per photo.
Prizes will be awarded in each division and category: $15 for first place, $10 for second place and $5 for third place.
