Highway 23 motorists in Rock County are advised that Monday, May 6, construction began and traffic will be detoured so crews can reconstruct the pavement.
The Highway 23 detour includes Interstate 90, Highway 75, Rock County Road 12 and Pipestone County Road 1.
The Highway 23 project extends 17 miles from I-90 to Jasper and includes removing the asphalt pavement and replacing with concrete. Some areas will include grading to correct the subsurface. The $9.5 million project was awarded to PCI Roads, LLC.
Motorists will experience a much smoother and safer ride when the project is complete in mid-August.
MnDOT plans an additional pavement project on Highway 23 from Pipestone to Jasper, which will be done under traffic, also starting in May.
