Alliant Energy asks customers without electric service to report outages at 1-800-ALLIANT (1-800-255-4268)
Alliant Energy released the following item this afternoon

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – April 12, 2013 – Interstate Power and Light (IPL), an Alliant Energy company, continues to make progress in its electric system restoration efforts following the spring ice storm that hit Northwest Iowa and Southern Minnesota this week. 

Customers who remain without electric service by late this afternoon are asked to report their outage by calling 1-800-ALLIANT (1-800-255-4268).

“If your power is still out, please call us,” requests Ann Jubeck, Manager of Customer Service for Alliant Energy. “Every call helps us pinpoint where problems remain and will assist us in targeting and expediting restoration efforts. Even if customers have called previously, we encourage them to report their outage again as we move into the latter stages of the restoration effort.”

It is also important for customers to check their meter sockets on their homes and businesses for damage caused by this week’s ice storm. Meter sockets need to be repaired in order to have electric service restored.

Meter sockets consist of the equipment where the electric line from the electric pole connects to the customers’ meter. As a result of the ice storm, the meter sockets’ connection points could be pulled away from a home or business, causing damage to the electric wiring or equipment within the building.

Crew members are checking the meter sockets as they work through areas impacted by the ice storm. Customers are being advised by crew members if they will need to contact an electrician to repair the meter sockets. Door hangers indicating that an electrician is required to restore service are being hung by crew members on the customer’s door if the customer is not available.

Repairs to meter sockets, weatherheads, meter boxes and other hazardous equipment need to be done – and should only be done - by a licensed electrician. By law, Alliant Energy can only repair the incoming service line and the meter itself.
