Slow start plagues H-BC's girls

The Hills-Beaver Creek girls couldn’t overcome a slow start when they entertained Southwest United for a Red Rock Conference clash Tuesday in Hills.

Finding success by pounding the boards early in the game, the visiting Wildcats opened a 30-14 halftime advantage.

H-BC fought back to outscore SWU 39-30 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Patriots from dropping a 60-53 decision.

“We didn’t box out very well and they took advantage of it in the first half,” said H-BC coach Jason Blosmo.

“We came out and played a little more inspired in the second half.”

Paige Leuthold led H-BC with 13 points and five steals in the game.

Haley Leuthold netted 12 points and registered four steals, Meghan Leuthold scored 11 points and collected eight rebounds and Taylor Wingert chipped in 11 points.

The 6-13 Patriots play in Westbrook Friday.
