Rock County’s first baby of 2013 arrived Wednesday morning, Jan. 2, in Sanford Luverne Hospital at a healthy 8 pounds, 2 ounces, and 19 inches long.

Hadley Marian Louwagie was born at 7:43 a.m. to proud parents Chris and Laura Louwagie of Luverne.

She joins a brother, Jonah, 10, and two sisters, Reese, almost 8, and Nora, 5.

The Louwagies shared that little Hadley joined their family as somewhat of a surprise.

Last spring they had alerted their day care provider, Heather Roberts, that they would soon no longer need her services.

A week later they returned to Roberts to see if she could accept an infant.

Laura said they were preparing for the next phase in their family without preschoolers.

“I cried at the Little Lambs graduation, thinking it would be the last one,” Laura said.

“Then I found out we were expecting another Little Lamb. … We feel so blessed.”

Hadley’s grandparents are Marv Struck and Joyce and John Metz, all of Mitchell, and David Louwagie and Kris Holm, Cottonwood.

Sanford Luverne presented the Louwagies with a gift basket for having the first baby of the year in their facility.
