Knights withstand H-BC's upset bid

Cold shooting in the second half prevented the Hills-Beaver Creek boys from recording a basketball upset Monday in Hills.

Entertaining Russell-Tyler-Ruthton, one of the top teams in Section 3A, H-BC made an early statement by opening a 34-23 lead at halftime.

The Patriots, however, couldn’t finish the job in the second half.

Taking advantage of H-BC’s 29 percent (seven of 24) from the floor in the final 18 minutes, the Knights outscored the hosts 42-27 in the second half to pull out a 65-61 win.

Jeff Sandbulte (19 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals) and Carey Taubert (13 points and 10 rebounds) registered double-doubles for the hosts.

Dylan Gehrke (17 points, three assists and three steals), Jon Gallagher (10 points and five rebounds), Dalton Bass (three assists) and Zach Wagenaar (three assists) made key contributions for H-BC.

The 2-5 Patriots play in Adrian Thursday.
