H-BC girls up record to 2-0

The Hills-Beaver Creek girls ran their basketball record to 2-0 Tuesday in Okabena.

Taking on Southwest United in a Red Rock Conference clash, the Patriots came out on the winning end of a 50-43 decision.

H-BC played well early and opened a 27-18 lead at the intermission.

SWU rallied to knot the score in the second half, but H-BC pulled away late to prevail by seven points.

“We certainly didn’t play our best basketball, but I didn’t expect us to because it’s only our second game,” said H-BC coach Jason Blosmo.

“Our girls bent a little bit, but they didn’t break. We found a way to walk away with a victory and that’s what we wanted.”

Meghan Leuthold netted a team-high 16 points for H-BC, which received a 10-point, four-steal effort from Haley Van Wyhe.

Paige Leuthold scored 10 points and Hattie Van Wyhe ripped down eight rebounds for the Patriots.

H-BC hosts Edgerton Friday.
