Locals compete at state meet

Sixteen runners from the Star Herald coverage area wrapped up the fall sports season Saturday at the Minnesota State Class Cross Country Championships at St. Olaf College in Northfield.

Two area teams competed in the event as well as two individuals.

Luverne eighth-grader Madison Schandelmeier and junior Makayla Hohn earned positions on the all-state team by placing among the top 25 finishers in the girls’ varsity race.

Schandelmeier placed ninth and Hohn 18th in a 175-runner field.

Led by an all-state performance by senior Jordin Kopplow, the Adrian girls placed eighth out 16 teams competing in the Class A race.

Kopplow paced the Dragons by placing 21st.

The Luverne boys also competed as a team in Northfield, capping a 16-squad field at meet’s end.
