SHARE and ATLAS announce ‘One warm coat project’

Again this year SHARE and ATLAS are partnering to collect new and/or clean, reusable coats, snow pants and winter gear to distribute to those who need the items. Bring donations to ATLAS for Life in Luverne at 201 E. Main Street, 2nd Floor (elevator available),  from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays through Nov. 7, or bring to the Luverne Elementary School through Nov. 2. Time Out for Caregivers Nov. 7

Elementary fall musical ‘Dinostars’  is Nov. 8

The Luverne Elementary School second-and fourth-grade classes will present their fall music program, “Dinostars,” at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, in the elementary school gym.  Come and see the different dinosaur acts competing for top honors in this musical variety show.

 

Hills Community Children’s Theatre presents ‘Happily Ever After ... The Beginning’

Hills Community Theatre presents the fall children's production “Happily Ever After … The Beginning” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, and Saturday, Nov. 10, and at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at the H-BC High School.

Tickets will be available at the door at each performance. Ticket prices are $5/adults, $2/K-12 students, and kids under K are free.

 

Blood drive at Sanford Luverne Nov. 12

Sanford Luverne and the Community Blood Bank will host a blood drive from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at the Sanford campus in Luverne. Call 283-2321 for information. 

 

Free seminar offered by Sanford Hospice Nov. 13

Sanford Luverne Hospice will host the free educational seminar “Providing Care at the End of Life” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in the Blue Mound Room at the Sanford Hospital in Luverne. The program is intended for area nurses, social workers, human service workers, clergy and others. Continuing education hours will be offered. Register by Nov. 5 by calling the Hospice office at 283-1805.

 

Set-up for Festival of Trees at Carnegie Nov. 13-17

Area families, businesses and organizations are encouraged to set up a theme tree for the Festival of Trees at the Carnegie Cultural Center in Luverne.

Times for tree set-up are from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, through Friday, Nov. 16, and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17. Dates for removal are Dec. 26-29. A $50 grand prize is awarded on Dec. 27 to the tree that earns the People’s Choice Award.

Register for these new fall activities by calling Community Ed. at 283-4724.

Adult Spanish Class will be Thursdays from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. from Nov. 1 to Dec. 20. Participants must have had some previous Spanish. Register by Oct. 26 at 283-4724.

Other adults interested in Beginning Spanish may call 283-4724 to express interest.

Students in grades 5-8 who attend Babysitting Basics will have their names placed on the “babysitter” list that is made available to parents looking for sitters. Class will be Nov. 5 and 8. Fee is $5.

Register by Nov. 6 to learn tips to improve Fishin’ on Ice from Mike Frisch, a fishing guide and professional fisherman on Nov. 20. Fee is $17/person or $25 for a family.

Anyone may buy books at the Scholastic Book Fair during elementary parent-teacher conferences on Thursday, Nov. 8. Arby’s roast beef sandwich, cookie and drink will be served from 3:15 to 6:30 p.m.

Have fun seeing all the fun toys and materials used at Luverne Community Education’s Discovery Time preschool at an open house for children ages 2 – 4 years Nov. 13 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sibling care for other children is available if requested by Monday, Nov. 12.

Anyone 12 years of age and older by March 1, 2013, may take the Snowmobile Safety class to receive a certificate to operate a snowmobile in Minnesota. Class fee is $15 for this two-session class on Nov. 15 and 17.

Are you 55 or older? Insurance companies will offer a discount on your car insurance when you take the National Safety Council Defensive Driving Class. The fall class will be in the evening on Nov. 19 and 26. Fee is $20.  

The Sioux Falls Washington Pavilion’s Discovery Lab comes to Luverne on Monday, Nov. 19 for Dino Dig Discovery for children ages 3-5 years. Register and pay $4 fee by Nov. 12.

Decorate your own Winter Planter with advice from George Bonnema on Nov. 24. Fee is $32 plus enhancements.

Minnesota School Readiness classes meet Tuesdays for children who are at least 3 years old by Sept. 1. Choose morning or afternoon sessions. Call 283-9191 for more information.
