Luverne, Adrian advance; H-BC falls

Brett Heronimus and the Luverne Cardinal football team reached the Section 3AA championship game by defeating Pipestone 48-21 at Cardinal Field Saturday.


The football season continues for two teams from the Star Herald coverage area after section semifinal round play Saturday afternoon.

The Luverne Cardinals and the Adrian Dragons passed their semifinal tests on their home field.

Luverne met Pipestone in Section 3AA play at Cardinal Field.

Luverne rolled to a 41-13 lead in the first half and went on top the Arrows 48-21.

Adrian overcame a halftime deficit to defeat Murray County Central in the Class A semifinals in Adrian.

The visiting Rebels led 6-0 at the intermission, but two touchdown runs by senior Jake Tiede in the second half lifted the Dragons to a 12-6 victory.

H-BC’s undefeated season came to an end Saturday in Hills.

The Patriots hosted defending state champion Edgerton-Ellsworth in Section 3 Nine-Man Playoffs.

H-BC defeated E-E in the regular season, but the Flying Dutchmen gained their revenge by handing the Patriots a 42-0 setback Saturday.

Both Adrian and Luverne play their section championship games Friday at Southwest Minnesota University-Marshall on Friday.

Adrian takes on St. Clair at 2:30 p.m., while Luverne meets Jackson County Central at 7 :30 p.m.
