•Motorists won’t be seeing the old “Hills Main St. Businesses” sign much longer.

Hills Lions Club members are working on a new sign featuring Hills area businesses. 

City Clerk Connie Wiertzema said 38 businesses will be listed. 

 

25 years ago (1985)

•“The proposal to join the four AVTI’s (Area Vocational-Technical Institute) in Southwest Minnesota is a local idea that could set statewide precedent,” Representative Wendell Erickson told the Crescent this week. 

“Combining administrations will allow each school to concentrate on the job of teaching our young people.”

 

50 years ago (1960)

•The Deep River Singers who appeared at the Hills school Monday evening were greeted by a large, appreciative audience. The program included familiar novelty songs, spirituals and plantation melodies and dramatic reading by Harris Stokes, director of the group.

 

75 years ago (1935)

•A Crescent reporter called on Ruud & Kolsrud, proprietors of the Blue Ribbon Poultry Farm and Hatchery, located on the north end of Main street, north of Bethlehem church last Saturday.

Likely there are many people in this vicinity who have never seen this big incubator in operation, therefore the proprietors extend an invitation to everybody to call at their plant, and they will be glad to explain it in detail. 

 

100 years ago (1910)

•The Washington Birthday exercises rendered by the Steen school teachers and school children, as well as the basket social was a decided success, both socially and financially. The hall was crowded to its utmost capacity and everybody enjoyed themselves especially the parents of the young folks taking part, who were justly proud of the way they carried out their parts.
